Book an AppointmentProtecting your future family options
Fertility preservation includes a range of options designed to help preserve the possibility of future pregnancy by freezing eggs, sperm, or embryos for later use in addition to ovarian tissue cryopreservation. These services may be recommended for medical reasons, prior to certain treatment like chemotherapy or radiotherapy, or as part of an IVF journey.
Who may benefit from fertility preservation?
Fertility preservation may be considered for:
- Patients undergoing medical treatments that may affect fertility, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy or other gonadotoxic treatments
- Couples undergoing IVF or ICSI who wish to preserve surplus embryos for future use, or in cases where frozen embryo transfer is medically recommended in a subsequent cycle.
- Women undergoing IVF who need to freeze eggs, where clinically and legally applicable
Types of fertility preservation
- Embryo Freezing — used to preserve embryos created during an IVF or ICSI cycle. High-quality embryos that are not transferred can be frozen and stored for future use.
- Egg Freezing — involves retrieving and freezing unfertilized eggs for future use, where appropriate.
- Sperm Freezing — involves collecting and preserving sperm samples for future use, commonly recommended before medical treatment, surgery, or where future fertility may be affected.
What does a frozen embryo transfer cycle involve?
A frozen embryo transfer cycle is usually recommended for some cases. It may take place during a natural cycle or a hormonally prepared cycle. The uterine lining is monitored with ultrasound to determine the optimal timing for embryo transfer. Once the lining is ready, the thawed embryo is transferred into the uterus.
Important note: The most suitable fertility preservation option depends on the couple's medical condition, treatment plan, and personal circumstances, in line with applicable clinical and regulatory requirements in KSA.
