Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment used to support couples experiencing infertility or subfertility. It involves placing prepared sperm directly by a fine catheter through the cervix and into the uterus to increase the chances of fertilization.
Who may benefit from IUI?
IUI may be recommended in cases such as:
- Mild male-factor infertility, including low sperm count
- Ovulation problems
- Unexplained infertility
- Certain sexual dysfunction issues
How does IUI work?
In some cases, fertility medications may be used to stimulate ovulation for the wife. The cycle is then monitored through ultrasound scans and, when needed, blood tests to determine the best timing for the procedure. Trigger injection is given.
A semen sample from the husband is prepared in the laboratory, and the processed sperm is then placed directly into the uterus using a thin catheter around the time of ovulation. This helps more sperm reach the eggs and shorten the distance to the fallopian tubes and may improve the chances of pregnancy.

What to Expect
- 01
Consultation
Your specialist reviews your fertility history, general health, and goals to confirm whether IUI is the right starting point — and to discuss what the cycle will look like.
- 02
Cycle Monitoring
We track your natural or lightly stimulated cycle with ultrasound scans and hormone checks to identify the best window for insemination.
- 03
Sperm Preparation
A semen sample is processed in our lab to concentrate the most active, healthy sperm — a step that significantly improves the chances of fertilization.
- 04
Insemination
The prepared sperm is gently placed directly into the uterus using a thin, soft catheter. The procedure is quick, outpatient, and most patients describe it as no more uncomfortable than a routine examination.
- 05
Follow-up & Next Steps
Two weeks after insemination, a pregnancy test confirms the result. If needed, your care team will discuss next steps — calmly and with full support.
