Al AhsaIVM (In Vitro Maturation)
Book an AppointmentA gentler approach to egg preparation
IVM is an assisted reproductive technology that offers an alternative approach to egg preparation in selected cases. In IVM, eggs are retrieved from the ovaries prior to full maturation, then cultured in specialized IVM media for 24–48 hours until maturation is complete. Once mature, the eggs can be fertilized in the laboratory and the treatment continues according to the patient's care plan.
Who it may be for?
IVM may be considered for patients who could benefit from lower-intensity ovarian stimulation, or for those where a different approach to egg maturation is clinically appropriate. Suitability is determined on a case-by-case basis, guided by medical history, ultrasound findings, and hormone profile. Your physician will discuss whether IVM is appropriate for your situation during counseling.
How it works?
- Assessment and planning: review of your medical history, ultrasound, and hormone profile.
- Egg retrieval: immature eggs are collected from the ovaries.
- Laboratory maturation: eggs are matured in specialized media for 24–48 hours.
- Fertilization: once mature, eggs are fertilized in the lab as part of the planned pathway.
- Next steps: embryos are managed according to your care plan, including transfer planning as clinically indicated.
