Al AhsaOvulation Induction
Book an AppointmentSupporting your body's natural cycle
Ovulation induction is often an early treatment option when pregnancy has not occurred, especially for women with irregular or absent ovulation. It uses medication to support follicle growth and help time ovulation for timed intercourse or IUI.
Who may benefit from Ovulation Induction?
- Irregular or absent ovulation (including PCOS)
- Selected cases of unexplained infertility or endometriosis
- Patients planning timed intercourse or IUI
Medication options
- Oral ovulation-induction tablets
- Injectable gonadotropins (FSH ± LH activity) to stimulate follicle development
- Trigger injection to complete final egg maturation and time ovulation (given only when instructed)
Monitoring
- Baseline ultrasound (± blood tests) early in the cycle
- Follow-up ultrasounds to track follicle growth and adjust dose if needed
- Guidance on timing for intercourse/IUI
- Pregnancy test typically ~14 days after the trigger
Possible side effects and risks
- Injection-site irritation (with injectables)
- Headache, nausea, mood changes, breast tenderness
- Ovarian cysts/enlargement
- Multiple pregnancy
- OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome)
- Cycle cancellation if response is not safe or effective
Typical course
Often 3–6 monitored cycles, depending on response and the agreed plan.

What to Expect
- 01
Consultation & Hormonal Assessment
Your specialist takes a full history and reviews any previous test results. Hormonal blood tests and an ultrasound build a picture of how your ovaries are responding — and what they need.
- 02
Personalized Medication Plan
A carefully chosen medication protocol is designed around your hormonal profile and cycle history. Specific choices and dosing are discussed with your specialist — no two plans are identical.
- 03
Monitoring
Ultrasound scans track follicle growth through your cycle, allowing the team to confirm that ovulation is occurring and to adjust the plan if needed.
- 04
Timed Guidance
Once follicle development is on track, your specialist advises on timing — whether that means natural conception attempts or combining with IUI. Nothing is left to guesswork.
- 05
Review & Ongoing Support
After each cycle your care team reviews what happened and discusses next steps — whether to continue, adjust, or explore further options.
